"There's no jobs round here, nothing, anywhere, nothing at all. If I stay round here, I'll have to get a factory job and stay there for the rest of my life cos its the only good pay around here: £200 a week!
I'm joining the army. Its a better place to be - you learn new skills every day." Sarah, 17
Use our easy online system to tell Ed Balls MP and Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families, what you think by writing to him.
Or ask your MP to sign our early day motion (EDM 1683) in Parliament which we tabled in June. The EDM says:
"That this House congratulates the YWCA on its More Than One Rung initiative to help young women into work and lift them out of poverty; notes that more than a quarter of a million young women work in elementary jobs, 10 per cent. have no qualifications and one million live in poverty; and calls on the Government to develop training programmes that address the needs of disadvantaged young women."
